Our Commitment
Livea Medical believes that everyone deserves equal access to health information and medical services, regardless of ability. We are committed to ensuring that our website at livea.com — and all digital properties associated with Livea — is accessible to people with visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and other disabilities.
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make digital content more accessible to people with disabilities. Conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA also helps the Site comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Measures We Take
We have taken the following steps to improve and maintain accessibility across the Livea website:
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements on the Site — including navigation menus, buttons, forms, and links — are designed to be reachable and operable using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse. Focus states are visible so that keyboard users can always see which element is active. Our navigation menus are designed to be fully traversable in a logical tab order.
Screen Reader Compatibility
We build pages using semantic HTML5 elements that communicate structure and purpose to assistive technologies. This includes appropriate use of:
- Heading hierarchy (H1 through H6) to create a navigable document outline
- Landmark roles (
main, nav, header, footer, section) to define page regions - ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes where native HTML semantics are insufficient
- Descriptive
aria-labelattributes on interactive elements that lack visible text labels
Alternative Text for Images
All meaningful images on the Site include descriptive alt text that conveys the content and purpose of the image. Decorative images that do not convey information use empty alt attributes (alt="") so that screen readers skip them.
Color Contrast
We design with sufficient color contrast between text and background to meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio requirements:
- Normal text (under 18pt): minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1
- Large text (18pt or 14pt bold and above): minimum contrast ratio of 3:1
- UI components and graphical objects: minimum contrast ratio of 3:1
Our primary brand teal (#2FB998) is used on white backgrounds at sizes and weights that maintain compliant contrast. We do not convey information using color alone — we supplement color cues with text, icons, or patterns where relevant.
Responsive and Flexible Design
The Site is fully responsive and functions on screen sizes ranging from small mobile phones to large desktop monitors. Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality. The layout adapts to prevent horizontal scrolling at standard viewport widths.
Forms and Input Fields
All form fields are associated with descriptive labels. Required fields are clearly identified both visually and programmatically. Error messages are specific, actionable, and linked to the field that caused the error. We avoid relying on color or position alone to indicate errors.
Links and Buttons
Links have descriptive text that makes their purpose clear in context. We avoid vague link text such as "click here" or "read more" when the destination or action is not otherwise evident. Buttons have accessible names that describe their action.
Video and Multimedia
Where video content is published on the Site, we provide or work toward providing captions, transcripts, or audio descriptions. Live video streams of telehealth sessions are governed by separate accessibility considerations in the telehealth platform we use.
No Time Limits
We do not impose session time limits on informational pages. Where session timeouts are necessary for security (such as in the patient portal), we provide advance warning and the ability to extend the session.
Animation and Motion
Animated elements on the Site are designed to be unobtrusive. We respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query where supported, reducing or disabling motion effects for users who have indicated a preference in their operating system settings.
Known Limitations and Ongoing Work
We are actively working to improve accessibility across all pages. The following are areas where we have identified gaps and are working to address them:
- Older blog and recipe content: Some blog posts and recipe pages published prior to 2025 may contain images without adequate alt text or documents in PDF format without full accessibility tagging. We are reviewing and updating this content on a rolling basis.
- Third-party embeds: Some third-party tools embedded in the Site (such as scheduling widgets, interactive maps, or social media feeds) are provided by external vendors and may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. We are working with our vendors to improve the accessibility of these components and are evaluating alternatives where vendor improvements are not forthcoming.
- Complex data tables: Some pages may contain tabular data that lacks full row and column header markup. We are auditing and updating these tables.
- PDF documents: Downloadable PDF resources such as guides and intake forms may not yet be fully tagged for screen reader accessibility. We are working to remediate existing PDFs and to produce future PDFs using accessible authoring practices.
We conduct periodic accessibility reviews using a combination of automated scanning tools and manual testing with assistive technologies including screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver) and keyboard-only navigation.
Browser and Assistive Technology Compatibility
The Livea website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies and browsers:
- NVDA with Firefox on Windows
- JAWS with Chrome or Edge on Windows
- VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS
- TalkBack with Chrome on Android
The Site is tested in the current and one previous version of major browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. If you experience difficulty with a combination of browser and assistive technology not listed here, please let us know.
Physical Location Accessibility
In addition to our digital commitment, all Livea clinic locations are designed to be physically accessible to patients with disabilities. Our in-person facilities include accessible parking, ground-level or ramped entrances, accessible restrooms, and exam rooms that accommodate patients with mobility aids.
If you have specific accessibility needs that you would like us to prepare for in advance of your visit, please call your clinic location directly. Contact information for all locations is available at livea.com/locations.
Telehealth Accessibility
Livea's telehealth program is designed to be accessible to patients with disabilities. If you require accommodations for a telehealth appointment — such as a sign language interpreter, captioning services, or alternative communication methods — please notify us when booking your appointment so we can make appropriate arrangements.
